USTRC Survey Results Surprise and Confirm
CEBS Concludes Report

(College Station, Texas) - The results are finally in for the United States Team Roping Championships (USTRC) of Stephenville, Texas. Working with the Center for Equine Business Studies (CEBS) at Texas A&M University the USTRC surveyed several thousands of its more than 40,000 members through an on-line questionnaire.

For the USTRC, the survey will be a tool they can use to beef up current programs and fine tune plans for the future.

"So much of what we learned was significant," said USTRC Marketing Director John Findlay. "A lot of the survey was a matter of confirming suspicions but there were some surprises. The fact that more than 50% of the participants have their own arena and cattle was more than I expected. We were pleased with the favored attitude participants had towards the services provided by the USTRC, particularly with 88.1% valued rating of SuperLooper Magazine. Our sponsors I know will be pleased with the amount of patronage they received from the participants."

For the CEBS, the opportunity to conduct the survey, at about half the cost of a commercial firm, was a test of its own abilities.

"The study took longer than we had anticipated as the sample size and scope of the survey grew, but, overall, we're pleased with the methods and tools we had in place and were able to continue developing while conducting the survey," said John Nichols, PhD, Texas A&M Agricultural Economics department head.

Nichols said that the final product not only included the survey data, but also included a professionally prepared Power Point presentation as well as bound results books that included charted data.

"Overall, we were quite pleased with the work performed by CEBS," said Findlay. "The staff was quite diligent and kept us informed of their progress. Both the final oral and Power Point presentations were quite good. Our thanks to all the staff at A&M involved in the project. I know it will serve us well in the months to come."

Nichols pointed out that surveying customers and members during tough economic times is a good investment in preparing for the future.

"Now is really the perfect time to get the opinions of customers. They are more keen to respond when they are looking for more answers themselves," he said.
